Well the heat has finally
subsided, and it is starting to feel like fall. Good
winds, but it gets dark quick. With all of our

the season will be a normal one.

Speaking of the Fall
Banquet (see details under Social Committee), it is time to start thinking
about the forthcoming elections. The Nominating
Committee members are: Jan Poulson, Ken Poulson,
and Bev Johnson. If you are interested in running
for an office, you are able to do so by obtaining 10 signatures, meeting
the requirements that are required by the bylaws (available on line, or
you can contact me) and submitting your request to the Nominating Committee. Basically, you must be a full member in good standing
(dues are paid and work hours are complete), and if running for Commodore,
you must be a full member for 2 years and have served one year on the E-Board.
The Committee Chairs
are appointed by the Commodore. If you are
interested in a committee position, or need information on any of the Officer
or Committee Chair responsibilities, feel free to contact me or anyone on
the Board.
See you at the race Saturday!

TREASURER
- DENISE MORIARTY
Hey everyone! Wow, the summer went fast didn't it? Of course, we've had lots of exciting things to
keep us all busy, and that means that there are probably lots of receipts
out there that need to be sent to me!! Please
get those turned in as soon as possible, and don't forget that you need
to have the committee head's approval first. Also,
be very clear about what the expense is for, so I know how to account for
it. If I have a question about whether the expense
is valid or what it is for, that will delay the check going out to you.
Also, an early reminder
to bondholders: if your address has changed during the year, please let
me know so that I can send mailings to the proper addresses without delays.

SAILING REPORT - DAVID & MARILYN HUGHES
New Jr. Sailors- Your Red Cross cards
are finally back. Look for them in the mail within the next week! September
is a great month to sail a sunfish. (Not those 100 degree days like July!) Check in with some of the new Jr.
Crewing members Scott Granger, Mack
Jones, Elaine Bailey, Adam Mandel, Stephan Stahl and Anna Smith. They would
like to sail and need some full membership partners to use the club boats.
Give them a call!
Feedback forms for camp will be mailed
to all the camp participants. Please help out with the planning for next
year by giving us your opinion.
The fundraising is going well! All
but two boat bags have been sold and new tank tops have been ordered. If
you asked for one they should be availiable very soon; hopefully at the
Sept. 6th potluck.
Remember Floyd Harrison has made copies
of all the digital pictures from camp and put them on a CD. He is also working
on editing a video of camp.
We’ll let you know when it becomes
available. The CDs are available now for $7.50. Call or email Dave and Marilyn
if you would like one.
A number of Jr. Sailors competed
in the Denver Sailing Association Jr. Open Regatta held Aug. 9th at Cherry
Creek Reservoir and at later at the Regatta at Bowmar. Be sure to congratulate
Megan Johnson, Mike Ruwitch, Avana Andrade, Mackenzie Jacobs, Gavin Jacobs
and Laura Stamets for their competitive spirit and great sailing skills
when you see them.
Thanks everyone,

CELEBRATING 50 YEARS—
Carter
Lake Sailing Club has never been like anywhere else.
Since the days it was known as the Denver Sailing Club, people were
lured by the thought of great sailing on a clear mountain lake. Even with the challenges of working to build and
maintain the club, some people wouldn’t go anywhere else, for the friendships
developed along the way made it all worthwhile.
Over the years, many members became
interested in the history of the club. Emmy Koehler
completed a seven-year history in 1960. Kurt
Plache sought a historian in 1972. Lynda Fromme
published a 25-year History, “A Peek in the Past,” in a 1984 log that ended
in “Let’s make the next 25 years even better with increased espirit de corps.”
There seemed to be some confusion
about the true date of the founding of the Club. It
wasn’t until 2003 that history documents were brought together, examined
and it was discovered the club was in fact 50 years old, founded on
Volunteers were recruited, plans were made, address lists were researched, and invitations were addressed. One hundred and seventy five past and present members were invited to spend the day on the lake and at the clubhouse.
Never in CLSC history had such a celebration
taken place. As the moment of the big party
approached, it became apparent that the idea the idea had caught on throughout
the club.

CLUBHOUSE COMMITTEE
REPORT - DALE QUAKENBUSH
The clubhouse had a
busy August. A great crowd turned out for our 50th party. Thanks to all
who showed up for the workday on such short notice on the 10th. And to Carrie
to supervise the work day. The new frig’s are working great. The beer is
just at freezing. There is still a full keg from the 50th party so come
to the next potluck and help drain it.
Sept has several private
parties.
Tue. 9/2 Green
Sat. 9/6
Sun. 9/7 Cooper
Sat. 9/13 Gruver late pm-eve.
WE need to keep the
BBQ grills clean. We had a small grease fire in one that was quickly brought
under control. IF THE GRILLS ARE DIRTY CLEAN THEM BEFORE YOU USE THEM. LETS
NOT BURN DOWN THE CLUB HOUSE!!
Someone also put a bunch
of food in the trash can with no trash bags. There are 55gal trash bags
under the south edge of the island so please use them. This was from use
during the week. If you use the clubhouse please take out your trash to
the dumpsters. Especially this time of year as the animals get ready for
winter.
There is someone out
there unhappy about using the shower room for storage. I was not aware of
it being available for showers and we were using it for storage for the
flotations for our breakwater. It has now been
cleaned out and ready to use.
I am also looking for
some to help me out with the clubhouse next year. Some one willing to keep
track of the stocking and inside cleaning and organizing of the clubhouse
would be great. This person would be in charge of the inside of the clubhouse.
I would take care of overall repair and maintenence of the clubhouse and
grounds ,camping etc.
