FROM THE EDITOR- LANA LOHE
October sure came up upon us
fast. What a great year of sailing we’ve
had. Great stories of racing, potlucks
and Jr. sailing were among the sail clubs agenda. And the 50th
Celebration to top it all off. Now to take our boats out of the slips and get them ready for next
year’s sailing season.
Please remember to let me know if you
are planning on changing your email address in the future.
“This is one of the very few sports whose techniques never quite
match the demands. Throughout a sailing
career, we never stop finding new skills to master and new problems to solve.”

PFISTER
Wow. October. It is hard to believe we are closing in on
the end of the sailing season already.
If you have been up at the lake over the last few weeks, I am sure you
will agree; The fall winds on Carter have been
phenomenal. Consistent and strong, but
not out of control.
As
always, I ask that you read through the entire log. We have slip pull just around the
corner. This is a required workday for
slip holders, and a great way for everyone to get their work hours in. It is incredible to watch and we need a lot
of help to make it work efficiently.
Please make sure you update your work hours ASAP. The work hour book is located on a shelf
under the table.
The
Fall Banquet is "Black Tie Optional" this year...our 50th year
celebration. Just a
reminder that you must RSVP by the end of October for this event. There are forms on line, as well as in the
clubhouse. Updates for all ongoing
events will be via e-mail (or direct mailings if you don't have e-mail).
See
you at slip pullout,
Carrie
Pfister

Hey
everyone! I can't believe it's already
October. If you haven't already, get
those receipts in! If you know of an
expenditure coming up in the next couple of months, but you won't know the
amounts by the end of October, please send me estimates, so that I can include
them in the year end financial statements.
Also,
bondholders need to contact me with any changes.
Thanks,

JUNIOR SAILING REPORT - DAVID &
MARILYN HUGHES
Thank-you to all the Jr. Sailors who sent back response sheets
regarding the Sail Camp. We appreciate your input and will use it as we plan for 2004. If
you still have a form and have not sent it in, it’s not too late. Mail or email
to Dave and Marilyn Hughes. We want your ideas!
We also have two CDs left for anyone who would like pictures of camp.
Floyd Harrison did a great job of compiling and editing all the pictures.
Contact Dave or Marilyn if you want a CD. They are $7.50 apiece. Thanks to Dale
Quakenbush we also have some great print pictures to use on an
info. board for Jr. Sailing at the next boat
show.
As
we end the sailing season it is a good time to look back and assess our 2003
Youth program.
We
had a record number of Jr. Sailors this year (27) and a lot of enthusiasm from
the beginning sailors as well as the advanced.
The
two session camp was a success providing smaller groups for instruction as well
as more age and experience level grouping. We are hoping to continue this in
2004.
The
four Jr. Instructors were skilled and helpful throughout the B session camp.
The Jr. Instructors are a real addition to the program.
The
first ever Carter Lake Jr. Regatta was a lot of fun for the kids and the
spectator fleet! It seems to have inspired more kids to get into racing and
hone their sailing skills. Many of the A camp participants have been attending
racing events all over the
The
club has been very supportive of the Youth program and helped make our fund
raising an incredible success. Over the winter months the Jr. Sailing Committee
will be meeting to plan the best way to use the funds to support our Jr.
Sailors in 2004. Please contact us with any ideas you might have
regarding the program and how to make it the best it can be.
We
have some great pictures of the camp and the regatta and with our new web site
we will be able to update the information from 2003 and share some of the fun
with the entire club. Thanks Steve Undy for the new flexible website.
We
had a large group of wonderful volunteers that helped make the sail camp a
success in 2003. We would like to thank
all those club members who had a hand in making camp run as smoothly as
possible. We couldn¹t do it without you!!
Thanks
everyone,
David & Marilyn

WORK HOURS!
I will
be taking the work hours log book from the club house at the end of the slip
pull-out weekend, so be sure to get your work hours logged by that time. DO NOT
email me with your hours--you have to get them recorded yourself in the log
book by that time. Contact Dale
Quakenbush at Dcq@webaccess.net if you are short and need more work hours
before the end of the season.
Don't
forget that you must complete your required work hours in order to retain your
slip/campsite/Sunfish slot for next year or to retain your spot on one of the
waitlists.
Thanks,

For
those who have a traveling trophy, please bring the trophy up to the clubhouse
on slip pull out day or deliver it to me by Oct 19th. These trophies need to be engraved with the

Thanks,

What a great year of social gatherings! Thanks to the creativity, energy and
involvement of so many of you for your time and effort with potluck hosting
this season. Kudos for all the help you afforded us at the Winter Membership
meeting and slip put-in day! We also
acknowledge those of you who worked behind the scenes on so many of our events,
always assisting with setup and cleanup, ever present to lend hosts and us a helping
hand! Let's keep the momentum going as
we prepare to gather November 15th for our final party of the year at the CLSC "50th Year" Annual Banquet. This is going to be a gala
event you do not want to miss! Reservation form is on the
website at www.sailcarter.org
and at the bottom of the log under Advertisements and copies are in the
clubhouse as well. Instructions for sending in your reservation are on the
form. Deadline for reservations is
October 31st. We are mailing out forms this week to those members who do
not have web access. Our banquet is being held in Ammons Hall on the CSU
campus. Keep in mind, being on the national historic registry, this facility
has no cash bar. This means BYOB (we provide setups.) Please call Nina @ (970)
206-9487 or Todd @ (970) 669-6689 with any questions. Please know Nina
&Todd are out of the country from Oct 3 - 19th on vacation,
but have someone handling incoming mail in our absence, so please submit your
forms and payment, as instructed on the form.

SLIPS COMMITTEE REPORT - MIKE
MORGAN
Well,
regretfully the season is almost over. Slip pull-out is scheduled for the
weekend of October 18th and 19th. We will also be doing some prep work on
Friday the 17th. If the weather doesn't cooperate then we will go for the next
weekend. We have canceled the workday to install floatation in the breakwater.
We need to have a good turnout for both
Pull-Out days. Every member should try to make these two work days.

CLUBHOUSE COMMITTEE REPORT - DALE QUAKENBUSH
The
season is winding down and the clubhouse served well this year as always. It is
in good shape. The BBQ's have been put away so if you need to use the club
house be sure to let me know so I can get the gas out there.
The
only work left for this year is some drainage work from the rain earlier in the
year. We will do the big clean up at slip pull out on the 18th of Oct.
All
campers and boat trailers must be out and areas cleaned up on or before slip
pull out days.
A big thanks to
everyone for making this a great year at CLSC and for all the help with
cleaning and working on the clubhouse.
See
you all there.
Dale
Quakenbush
