EDITOR LOG - LANA LOHE

Remember to send all email or mailing address changes to me. On that same note, I’ve noticed some people have more than one email address. So when you send a request for an email address change, please be so kind as to tell me which one I’m to replace. I’m not to good at guessing.

Only 2 months left!!!!

I don't know about you, but I am past ready to sail....

It was great seeing everyone at the boat show, hearing the race stories from Lake Pleasant and about the spring BVI flotilla plans (see Mike Morgan for details) from Club Members. A big thanks to Todd and Nina as well as all of the volunteers for making the boat show as successful as ever.

Just a reminder that we are officially into the 2004 year as far as park passes are concerned. The on line site through Larimer County is not running at this time, so you will need to stop in the Bison Center to get one. Please make sure you are in compliance before entering the park, and that boats are required to have passes attached to them before going in to the slips.

We have had a bit of confusion with work hours, wait lists and bylaws this past winter. I will provide a quick clarification:

1. Memberships are valid from March 15 through March 14 of the following year.

2. Work hours run on a calendar year (January 1st through December 31st).

3. Wait lists are maintained and assigned through the Membership Committee. You must be a member in good standing to be placed on a wait list. This means fees, dues and work hours are in line. You also must be in good standing to keep slips, campsites etc., and vote.

4. Membership applications must be filled out and signed every year. The E-Board proposes the fee structure at the Winter Membership Meeting each year. It is voted on by the full memberships in good standing at that time.

The bylaws are available on line and reflect all of the above items, as well as others. It is very important that we abide to these. They are in place for a reason. If special situations arise, please contact a Board Member for resolution, we also will entertain new bylaws/regulations as well as amendments to the existing ones. We are cleaning up the bylaws this winter, and each member will receive a printed set after March 15th.

The Membership Committee has e-mailed forms reflecting the proposed 2004 fee structure to it's members. If you do not have e-mail, you will be mailed one. It is assumed that if you are providing e-mail addresses to us that you are okay with using this form to communicate by. If you want to use mail, please let Lana Lohe know. The 2004 form is available on line, but does NOT reflect the proposed fees structure for the 2004 season, as it has not been accepted yet.

Whew! Well that is about it for now. Please make sure you go through the log... We have lots of new things going on; County Task Force summaries, Junior Olympics, etc., as well as information on the Winter Membership Meeting which will be held February 21st in Longmont. Please come to meet perspective new members and see what your E-Board is planning for 2004.

See you in a few weeks!

VICE COMMODORE LOG JEFF GRUVER

Greetings from your Vice-Commodore/Cabin Boy. Preparations are rolling along nicely for the 45 Annual Open Regatta. For new members and non-racers this is a very fun weekend with a lot of energy and lots of opportunities to volunteer for various positions. I'll have a sign-up board at the winter membership meeting which will list the various positions needed with a brief job description. If you don't make the meeting and still want to help please E-mail or call.

The new regatta shirts will be available at the winter meeting as well. I'll have short sleeve/long sleeve T's and sweatshirts as well. Since I had my fashion consultant/wife/snacktition with me there will be a variety of colors available in the sweats that should appeal to the women in the club.

Prices will be; $15.00/basic T, $20/long sleeve T, and $30/sweatshirt.

Lets hear what the critics have to say; "These shirts go well with seafood and fresh

fall flowers" - Martha Stewart,

"I think they will make me sail faster" -Mike Wilson,

"These shirts will surely eclipse the popularity of the red Mount Gay Rum racing

hats!" - Gary Jobson.

I have also had a calling for CLSC burgees and will be taking an interest count at the winter meeting. Price quotes will be into me in the next few days and I will have an accurate price at the meeting.

I look forward to seeing you all there.

SLIPS COMMITTEE LOG - MIKE MORGAN

Well, the new sailing season is almost here and it's time to plan for our spring work day's. We will need to get a few volunteers together next weekend, January 31st, to help dig the Breakwater tires out. The water has dropped since Pullout and the Breakwater is high and dry on the beach. The tires have filled with mud and we to bring garden trowels to get the mud out of them. We will meet at 10:00 am if the weather permits. We will be working on the shoreline so waders or boots are recommended. Bring your own lunch and hydration as the club is still closed for the winter.

The first major work day of the year will be March 13th. We will be repairing the slips in anticipation of launching them at the end of the month. If the weather is not cooperating we will meet at the same time the next Saturday. We will meet at the lake at 9:00 in the morning. Please bring work gloves, electric drills, screw drivers and hammers as we will be replacing wood and rub-rail that day. Lunch will be provided by the club but bring your own refreshments.

Slip Put-In is scheduled for the March 27th and 28th. The alternate weekend in case of bad weather is April 3rd and 4th. We will meet at the lake at 9:00 am in the morning. Please be sure to bring work gloves and waders for those working at the ramp. Once again, lunch will be provided by the club but you need to bring your own drinks.

Just a reminder of the BVI Flotilla that is scheduled for June 12th-27th. We will be having 11 days of sailing and 4 days on land. Our boats will be chartered thru SunSail and we currently have two boats filled, a Lagoon 380 catamaran and a Beneteau 40cc. So far we have six couples signed up. If anyone else is interested it is still not to late to reserve some more boats. Cost of the trip is estimated to be about $1,500 per person including the boats, air and lodging. If you are interested please contact Michael Morgan at (970) 395-0073 or e-mail me at advantagef@aol.com.

See you soon!!

CLUBHOUSE COMMITTEE LOG - DALE QUAKENBUSH

Its time to start planning for the 2004 season. The clubhouse work days will be the same as the slip work day and put in days. March 13 is the first with March 20 as the alt. in case of bad weather. I plan on a small work party on March 6th to power wash the decks so they can dry before painting on the 13th. If anyone has a power washer and/or can help on the 6th let me know. The work mostly will be washing and painting and general cleaning of the clubhouse.

The clubhouse will be available for members private use when not in use for club functions or work days. All private parties need to be scheduled with me so we don't have conflicts. the county is also requesting notification of all parties so I will let them know when private parties are happening also.

Remember that all county rules need to be followed in the CLSC area and club house so make sure all guests have permits and know the rules.

Remember to put those trailer tag # on your apps if your parking your trailer on the hill.

WE are planning another informal potluck/Movie night (Pirates of the Caribbean) On Sat night Feb. 7th around 6:30pm. Jeff Gruver will bring the Clam Chowder and the movie, and Ivan will bring the movie projector.

SO bring an appetizer, dessert or something to go with Clam Chowder and of course (BYOB) bring your own beverage choice. Come up to the clubhouse for an evening of some tall stories and a GREAT movie around the fire. Remember the water is off (I'll bring 5gal for washing & hot chocolate). This is after the race meeting @ the anchorage that afternoon.

I'll start the fire early and food at 6pm.

As always please call or e-mail with suggestions or concerns.

See you at the winter meeting in February.

Dale,

Dale Quakenbush

GOVERNMENT LIAISON LOG - DAVE LOCK

The Task Force made up of CLSC and Larimer County representatives met for the first time January 22nd in Fort Collins. The Club's re-negotiated lease with the County calls for a Task Force made up of CLSC members and County representatives to meet to discus what the County's future role may be at Carter Lake. CLSC members on the Task Force include Carrie Pfister, Mike Gurley, Don Waldburger and Dave Lock. Gary Buffington and three County Parks and Open Space employees attended the meeting on behalf of the County.

The meeting covered various topics, including potential slip configurations, breakwater options, possible amentias the County is interested in offering (e.g. a marina, fuel service, a restaurant or food service, a store), work responsibilities and trade-offs (Club members providing some services versus the County providing all services) and the future of the CLSC Clubhouse and the potential of the County building a community meeting facility. The meeting essentially focused on information gathering and exchanging. The County staff will continue to review all of these topics and refine them for further discussion. Another Task Force meeting will be February 26th.

CLSC's modified lease with the County states that the County Commissioners must approve any plan for the County to play a greater role at Carter Lake by August 31st. If that action doesn't happen, the lease continues as it is with a slight increase in the Club's payment to the County in 2005. Mr. Buffington said he hopes to have a proposal that is acceptable to CLSC to present to the Commissioners in June or July.

We will keep Club members posted on the discussions with the County as they evolve.

BOATS COMMITTEE LOG – STEVE JOHNSON

The Race Committee (RC) boat has been put under shrink wrap for the winter and is awaiting spring. For those who would like some work hours in '04 please let me know and we can get together for a RC boat beautification day before we put the boat in the water. A good waxing/buffing of the top side would help a lot, along with a new coat of Gray paint on the aft floor and engine cover (clean, sand, paint). We also need to seal up the front cabin hatch and windows to keep the rain water out of the bilge.

The Whaler "Chick Magnet" will also need some spring cleaning as well.

THINK SPRING!
