On that same note, I’ve noticed some people have more than one email

kind as to tell me which one I’m to replace.
I’m not to good at guessing.
Only 4 weeks left
until we put slips in again. I think
I’ll make it now.!!

It is
March! Let the sailing season begin!!
We had a great
turn out at the Winter Membership meeting in February. My thanks to Todd, Nina, Shannan and Lana for
their planning and execution of a successful night!
Just a reminder
that fees are due March 15th (membership applications are available off of the
main page of the website). On March
16th, we start assigning new slips, so please mark that date on your
calendar! Slip work begins on the 13th. Make sure you have your park permits. You can go on line through Larimer County,
order and print a receipt and received your permits with in 2-3 days.
Please take
time to review our updated website. We
now have open forum links for crewing, obtaining crew, racing, selling items,
etc. as well as a link for the Junior Olympic Festival. It is a great way to get your information out
to the club. We also have an on line
calendar, so you can plan accordingly.
We have combined some events, and scheduled some new ones, so please
take a look. Thanks to Steve Undy for
his endless work with our site.
Just added to
the calendar is an event I will be hosting on April 18th from 2-4 pm, off of
I-25 and 120th Avenue. It is called
"Racing Rules for Women" and will be presented by Tom Downing a Race Official, and Appeals Chairman
for SAIL (Sailing Association of Intermountain Lakes). There is a limit of 15 people, so please RSVP
asap. He will be discussing basic rules
and protocols, as well as opening the floor for any questions you have had, but
have been too embarrassed to ask.
The task force
continues to meet with Larimer County Parks, and updates can be found under the
Government Laison section of the log. We
gave an update at the Winter Meeting, and opened the floor for questions and
concerns.
At that
meeting, we also updated a few bylaws, and amended a few others. Motions that
passed include limiting boats that are in CLSC slips to 10,000 lbs, and a bean
of 10' 6". Current boats that do
not meet this guideline, will be grandfathered in. The Committee title of "Larimer County
Liason" will be renamed, "Government Liason". Yachting Club of America cards will be given
to every level of membership. The CLSC
Bylaws will be mailed to all members during March, along with the Larimer
County Rules and Regulations. Please
take the time to familiarize yourself with them.
See you on the
water!

VICE COMMODORE LOG – JEFF
GRUVER
It was
a great turn-out and good times at the winter membership meeting. I still have a few unfilled volunteer
positions for help at the open regatta on June 4th, 5th, and 6th. I need three people to set-up, serve, and
clean-up appetizers during registration on Friday, June 4th from 5:00pm to
about 9:00pm. For Saturday, June 5th I
need three dinner helpers to assist our caterer from 4:30pm until done. I could also use two more volunteers to help
with appetizers/awards on Sunday, June 6th after racing is finished. The regatta is a fun and easy way to build up
your volunteer hours. If interested in
any of these positions just E-mail or call 970-988-0464 and let me know.
The
new regatta shirts were well received at the meeting, especially the
sweatshirts. There are still many short
and long sleeve T-shirts available in a variety of adult sizes. I'm compiling a list for a custom order for
sweat shirts and junior size T-shirts.
There are several color options available in the sweatshirts. I need a minimum order of 72 due to the
complexity of the silk screen set-up so think of yourself, your crew, and
friends/family. Just call or E-mail to discuss size and color preference.
Last
but not least an order of 25 CLSC burgees(flags) will be arriving any time
now. They will cost $20.00 apiece and
half are already spoken for so get your order into me soon. This will be a great season to see everyone
flying our flag!
If you
have any trouble getting through my spam-blocker just call and leave a message
at 970-988-0464. See you all at slip
put-in!

A warm
welcome to our newest member, Linda Meadows of Fort Collins. The Winter Membership Meeting successfully
kicked off the 2004 season on Feb 21.
The event was very well attended and our thanks to Shannon and Rich
Tenze for putting together a great evening. Numerous people paid their 2004 dues and slip
fees at the meeting ensuring their continued priority on their slip. Please remember that slip fees and dues must
be in Nina’s or Todd’s hands no later than March 15, or your slip will go to
the next person on our growing waitlist.
Sorry, but those are the rules!
Please
remember to log your work hours in the log book located at the clubhouse. It will be available by slip launch days.
There
have been a few questions about the location of the application on-line. When you first sign on to the club website,
www.sailcarter.org, (if you’re reading this you’ve already passed it) it is the
third item on the menu on the left side.
Send completed application and payment to Nina at the address noted on
the bottom of the application.
See
you at slip launch days!

SLIPS COMMITTEE LOG - MIKE
MORGAN
Well, the winter
is almost over and it's time to start getting ready for a new sailing season. We have scheduled a workday for the slips
on March 13th, with an alternate day of March 20th. We will be replacing
some of the wood and repairing some rub-rail. The workday will start at 9:00
am. Please bring gloves, basic tools and your own lunch/drinks. If the
weather doesn't cooperate I will send out an e-mail so check your email before
you drive up to the lake or you can call me.
Slip Put-In is scheduled for March 27th and
28th. If the weather is
bad we will reschedule to the next weekend, April 3rd and 4th. Once again bring
gloves, tools and waders for anyone wanting to work in the water.
I will be
assigning slips in March, if you wish to be reassigned to another slip please
e-mail me before March 15th on what you preferences are. There are no guarantees,
but I will do everything I can to move you to the area that you desire. Prior
slip holders will have priority over new assignees for any slips that open up.
See you In March,
Mike
Morgan

CLUBHOUSE COMMITTEE LOG
- DALE QUAKENBUSH
Hi
all . This is the month the sailing season starts. Less than thirty days we'll be on the water
again. I was out this weekend and the water is over the second turnaround and
filling and the tires are sort of floating ( not on the bottom).
TThe
first work day is the 13th to clean and paint the decks if the weather is
warm. Check your email before you drive
up to the lake if the weather is questionable. Or you can always call me. The
alt for bad weather is the 20th. This is a great chance to get those work hours
behind you.
I
am still looking for someone to help with keeping the clubhouse stocked and
organized. Call if interested.
See
you all real soon,
Dale

There have been a
few changes to the web pages in the last month: a links page, web forums and
the Junior Olympic Sailing Festival pages.
Look for mainly cosmetic changes in the next months to help
usability. Please email me if you have
any comments or ideas you’d like the website to have.
Thanks,

GOVERNMENT LIAISON LOG
- DAVE LOCK
The Task Force did
not meet with the County in February (but there is a meeting scheduled for the
first week of March), so there is nothing new to report on the dialogue we are
having. In the meantime, Task Force
members (Carrie Pfister, Mike Gurley, Don Waldburger and Dave Lock) have met
and strategized. As a reminder, CLSC
must follow all County regulations, one of which requires that only 3.2% beer
in cans is allowed at the Clubhouse and on other County property. Please help us to adhere to these
regulations.

BOATS COMMITTEE LOG – STEVE
JOHNSON
This will be the
month to perform club boat maintenance and beautification items. Weather
permitting we will try to do this at the same time as the slip and clubhouse
maintenance days (March 13th and 20th). This would be a good opportunity for
the JR sailors to get out and help clean and polish the whaler and committee
boat.
Whaler needs:
Install new seats,
design and build foredeck platform, platform to cover battery and gas tank.
Committee boat:
This will be the
year of fix up and beautify. If anyone would like to help or has expertise
please do so...
1.
Rebuild/re-upholster captains chair. It is almost ready to break and fall over
backwards.
2. Seal front
cabin windows.
3. Wax and polish
top sides.
4. Remove and
replace CL numbers.
5. Sand and paint
cockpit floor and engine cover
