Welcome to Spring!

The slips are in and filling up, potlucks, the Spring Race Series, and Rookie Series all have begun.

Just a reminder that our club has the incredible activity level and commraderie is does because of our work hours and volunteers (you!).  We are still looking for Regatta help (see Jeff Gruver), Junior Olympic help (Ivan Andrade), Junior Sailing Camp (David and Marilyn Hughs) and need many more potluck hosts (Shannan Tenze).  PLEASE take a look at the on line calendar along with the roster and call or e-mail a committee head to offer your help.  Better yet?  Please contact a new member to work with you and show them the ropes.  As we all learned when we were new to the club: What you put in to this club is what you get out of it.

Please take a few minutes and log in to the secured section of the website.  When you hit "home", look around at the incredible format and changes that Steve Undy, our webmaster, has so diligently been working on.  There are now many interactive sections, a printable roster, a photo section, important updates on the main page.....  and the changes keep coming!  A HUGE thanks to Steve for giving us the technology to stay on top of things.

       VICE COMMODORE LOG  JEFF GRUVER

Greetings fellow sailors.  I still need a few more volunteers for the open regatta on June 5th and 6th.  I need two more people to assist the caterer on Saturday night and one or two for appetizer prep and trophy ceremony help.  This is a fun way to log volunteer hours.  I also need any last minute sweat-shirt orders by the 6th so I can get the order out in time.  Just give me a call or E-mail if you have any questions on color and size options.

I will also have CLSC ballcaps available by mid month in three different styles.  I have burgees and small burgee stickers that work great on car bumpers and boat transoms.  Let's all fly our flag this season!  After the regatta Steve Undy and I will set up a "ships store" on the CLSC website where you will be able to view all these fun trinkets.  See you on the lake.

Attention Jr. Racers:

There was a planning meeting during the March 27th dock put in to organize some advanced jr. racing seminars in 2004. The goal of the seminars is to provide a program for junior racers who are 13 and older, have been involved with racing and want to get more practice and hone skills. Craig Fleming (collegiate racer, ASA instructor and rigger at the Anchorage) has agreed to help coach the seminars. (See his bio on the Anchorage web site) Thanks to those 7 Jr. Sailors who attended the organizational meeting to meet Craig and help us start creating a great program.  The four dates that we came up with for the series are: May 22, 29, June 12 and June 19. Students meet Craig at the Courtesy dock at Carter Lake at 9:00 am. Cancellations due to weather will be at the dock only.   We may add other days in July if there is interest. The registration form for the Jr. racing seminars will be on the web site under racing or call or email us and we will mail you one

If you are interested in the racing seminars please contact Dave and Marilyn Hughes or Stan and Jeanne Strathman.

SLIPS COMMITTEE LOG - MIKE MORGAN

Well, it's finally time to start sailing. I first would like to thank everyone that helped on the Slip and Breakwater Put-In. The weather could have been better and I appreciate everyone coming out in the cold.

For anyone needing work hours, there are still a few projects that need taken care of on the slips.  There are some warped boards on the South slips that need replaced. There is also a piece of rub rail on the North Slips that needs reattached. Call me if you want to work on these and I will tell you where the supplies are. These would make good week time projects for those that can't make it up on scheduled weekend work days.

Have a nice spring of sailing and I'll see you at the lake.

Later,

Mike Morgan

CLUBHOUSE COMMITTEE LOG -  DALE QUAKENBUSH

Looking at my calendar, the season is in full swing. There is something every weekend this month.

REMEMBER TO CKECK THE CLOSE UP CHECKLIST BY THE NORTH DOOR. THE HOT WATER HAS BEEN LEFT ON TWICE.

(it was the e-board pot luck )

I have a work day scheduled on Fri. the 29th to mow the grass, mop the deck and in general get things ship shape for the open the next weekend. This is a great time for you members who have trouble getting your hours done on the weekends as you can call and do this during the week. Please call and let me know who is coming. The mower could use some maintenance or bring your own weed trimmer and mower.

**The clubhouse is reserved on Sunday, May 16th from 10am -4pm.  Corrie Connally will be graduating from CSU.  Jake and family will be providing BBQ burgers and fixins on the grill at the clubhouse and they are inviting everyone from the sailclub to come up and have lunch and congratulate Corrie on her wonderful accomplishment.   Lunch will be served around 11:30 at the clubhouse.  They hope you can attend.  Cake and punch will be provided too.

See you all real soon,

Dale

GOVERNMENT LIAISON LOG - DAVE LOCK

The Task Force continues to meet with the County about the future of CLSC at Carter Lake.  The County's Parks and Open Lands Director, Gary Buffington, has indicated to the Task Force and publicly in recent newspaper articles that he envisions CLSC remaining at Carter Lake in generally the same fashion as we have previously existed.  As they say, the "devil is in the details" and that's what the Task Force is focusing on now.  We will keep members posted on our progress or don't hesitate to talk with members of the Task Force:  Carrie Pfister; Mike Gurley, Don Waldburger or Dave Lock.

JUNIOR OLYMPIC SAILING FESTIVAL

March 28 meeting was incredibly productive. Thanks to the input from Jim Jacobs, Rafe Ropek, Stan & Mat Strathman, Reagan Moragan, Laura & Kathy Stamets & Avana Andrade a solid marketing concept for the Junior Sailing Festival was decided on. A team effort to be sure, Jim Jacobs provided the needed connections for graphics, Rafe assembled the graphics into a wonderful image and Reagan handled the copy, proofing and reproduction. The final product is being distributed by the national organizers of JOSF as an excellent example for pr
