Carter Lake Sailing Club is a community of individuals brought together by our passion for sailing. Our family-friendly Club is comprised of sailors who have a range of experience as well as sailing enthusiasts who don’t own a boat. Some members race, some cruise and some race and cruise. Every member is a valued part of the Carter Lake Sailing Club.

CLSC members sail and play on Carter Lake which is approx. 2.5 miles long and approx. 1 mile wide. The lake is nestled in the picturesque foothills, about an hour’s drive from Denver and about 30 minutes from Boulder and Fort Collins, Colo.

The Club has 50 slips on the lake and maintains a policy of open membership for any kind of sailboat. Racing is comprised of fleets of one design of three or more boats, and PHRF A and B fleets, split at a rating of 200. A variety of other cruisers and day sailors are owned by CLSC members.

Our clubhouse was built by the club, with the facilities available to Club members through a long-term lease with the Larimer County Recreation Board and the Federal Bureau of Reclamation.

If you’re into racing, CLSC has a spring race series and a fall race series. The Club also sponsors an annual regatta, the Carter Lake Open, the first weekend of June.

Our Junior Sailing program is one of the best in the area. CLSC’s Junior Sailing Camp provides children ages 8 through 17 an opportunity to learn basic sailing knowledge and techniques and concludes with our Junior Sailing Regatta.

Don’t have a boat? No worries.  Several non-boat owners help crew on race days or social sail with friends. Or they borrow one of the club’s one-person sailboats and enjoy the peace and quiet–and sometimes the challenging winds–of Carter Lake. Other members simply want to take advantage of our social activities and club amenities.

On any day of the week April through October, activity among members abounds: members on the water taking advantage of the wind, families and/or groups of families enjoying the water near the docks, members socializing on their boat and even staying overnight as well as members gathering at the clubhouse for fellowship.

Club amenities include. . .

  • Fully equipped clubhouse that has a magnificent view of the lake
  • Secured docks, with slips for up to 50 sailboats
  • Kayak storage racks
  • Sunfish sailboats for use to members at no cost
  • Two campsites with electrical hook-ups (reservations necessary)
  • Fire pit, outdoor grill and numerous picnic tables at clubhouse

CLSC activities throughout the off season include a fall membership awards banquet, winter membership banquet, training seminars and a variety of social events.

Because the common bond of sailing is as powerful as the wind, CLSC is where many friendships begin—and grow stronger through the years.
