Most of the maintenance on the docks and clubhouse is performed by the CLSC members. This tends to keep operating costs and dues low.

Carter Lake is located northwest of Longmont Colorado, nestled in the foothills, about one hour’s drive from Denver and about 30 minutes from Boulder Colorado and Fort Collins Colorado.

Carter Lake is approximately 2.5 miles long and approximately one mile wide. It is surrounded by hills and forest at an elevation of 5800′. There is ample room for good triangular race course and Carter Lake has “hearty” sailing winds much of the time.

Temperatures during the summer months are usually moderate and the nights are cool. Free of ice virtually all year long, the sailing season is usually April through September. An “extended” season is often available through October. Those who sail in to the fall have reported excellent, steady winds and delightful weather. The water is cold until mid-June. From mid-June until Labor Day, the water is excellent for swimming.

A restaurant, a small store for the purchase of picnic supplies and fishing gear, as well as a commercial marina are located near the CLSC area.
